Mon, Nov 29th 7:08pm EST
By Brendan Tuma

Major League Baseball announced Monday that Braves OF Marcell Ozuna has received a retroactive suspension of 20 games for violating the Joint Domestic Violence Policy. (Source: Jared Diamond on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The suspension applies to the games that Ozuna missed while on administrative leave from September 10th through the end of the regular season. It’s unclear if Ozuna will be on the Braves’ roster to begin 2022, but he is now eligible to be.

Corey Seager reaches agreement with the Rangers

Mon, Nov 29th 4:39pm EST
By Ethan Biddle

SS Corey Seager and the Texas Rangers have reached an agreement on a 10-year, $325 million deal, sources tell ESPN’s Jeff Passan. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It’s a massive pay day for Seager, who now joins an elite middle infield in Texas with fellow free-agent signing Marcus Semien. It will be interesting to see what the Rangers decide to do with their previous shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and whether or not they decide to trade him or move him elsewhere in the infield. Nonetheless, Seager will remain a premier fantasy asset in what should be a much more potent offense in Texas.

Robbie Ray agrees to five-year, $115 million deal with Mariners

Mon, Nov 29th 3:22pm EST
By Brendan Tuma

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Mariners and free agent LHP Robbie Ray are finalizing a five-year, $115 million contract. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The deal includes an opt out after Year 3. Seattle has been reported to be interested in making a splash this offseason and this certainly qualifies as one. Ray had a career year in 2021 en route to winning the American League Cy Young award. There will be a lot of debate this offseason as to whether or not he can maintain that production in 2022.

Max Scherzer finalizing three-year, $130 million deal with Mets, per Heyman

Mon, Nov 29th 12:05pm EST
By Brendan Tuma

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports the Mets are finalizing a three-year, $130 million contract with free agent RHP Max Scherzer. (Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This blows the AAV record out of the water, which was previously held by Gerrit Cole at $36 million. Scherzer will now average roughly $43 million over the next few seasons as he teams up with Jacob deGrom to form arguably the scariest 1-2 punch in recent memory. Scherzer was fantastic in 2021, showing little sign of imminent decline. Among National League starters he ranked second in ERA, fourth in fWAR, second in K% and K-BB%, third in BB%, and fourth in FIP and xFIP. He’ll be an obvious SP1 in 2022 fantasy drafts.

Fantasy Impact: Calhoun had a down 2021 season. He hit .235/.297/.373 with a .670 OPS and five homers in 51 games. He could be a solid bat off the bench for the Rangers.

Kevin Gausman signing a five-year, $110 million deal with Blue Jays

Sun, Nov 28th 9:03pm EST
By Brendan Tuma

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Blue Jays have agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract with free agent RHP Kevin Gausman. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Gausman had some interesting 2021 splits. He posted a 1.73 first half ERA with a 3.31 xFIP. In the second half, he registered a 4.42 ERA with a 3.23 xFIP. The move to the American League East isn’t a great one for his fantasy prospects, but he has shown enough over the past two season to remain a quality fantasy starter. This likely takes Toronto out of the Robbie Ray sweepstakes.

Marcus Semien reaches seven-year, $175 million deal with Rangers

Sun, Nov 28th 6:10pm EST
By Brendan Tuma

ESPN’s Jeff Passan confirms the Texas Rangers are signing free agent 2B/SS Marcus Semien to a seven-year, $175 million contract. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It’s a massive payday for Semien, who had to settle for a one-year contract last offseason. The 31-year-old had a monstrous season with the Blue Jays, belting 45 homers and swiping 15 bases. The move to Texas isn’t good for his counting stats, but Semien should remain a high-end fantasy player in 2022.

Byron Buxton agrees to contract extension with Twins

Sun, Nov 28th 4:39pm EST
By Chris Schommer

Twins center fielder Byron Buxton and the Twins have agreed to a seven year, $100 million contract extension with a full no-trade clause. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This is an important long-term move for the Twins in locking up an elite-level player like Buxton. In just 61 games last season Buxton finished with a .306 batting average, 1.005 OPS, 50 runs scored, 23 doubles, 19 home runs, 32 runs batted in, and nine stolen bases.

Corey Kluber agrees to one-year deal with Rays

Sun, Nov 28th 11:03am EST
By Chris Schommer

Free-agent starting pitcher Corey Kluber has agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with the Tampa Bay Rays pending a physical. (Source: Ken Rosenthal on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This is a low-risk gamble for the Rays as well as Kluber. With the New York Yankees last season, Kluber finished with a 3.83 earned run average, 1.34 WHIP, and 82 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched including a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers. With the improved defense Kluber will have behind him, as long as he can stay healthy he could return to form and be a solid piece added to the Rays pitching staff in 2022.

Yimi García signs with the Blue Jays to bolster their bullpen

Sun, Nov 28th 2:04am EST
By Corbin Young

According to Jon Morosi, reliever Yimi García signs with the Toronto Blue Jays to bolster their bullpen. (Source: Jon Morosi on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: With the Marlins, García recorded all 15 saves in 2021 with a 3.47 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. As an Astros reliever, he served in a setup role with a 5.48 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with zero saves and two holds. With the Astros, he appeared a bit unlucky with a 42.6% LOB% compared to a 71.1% LOB% with the Marlins. Expect García to serve in a middle relief role with the Blue Jays, but could challenge Jordan Roman eventually for saves in 2022.

Sat, Nov 27th 2:17pm EST
By Chris Schommer

Free-agent relief pitcher Hector Neris is signing a two-year deal that includes $17 million in guaranteed money pending a physical with the team. (Source: Jim Salisbury on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Neris will give the Astros another high-impact arm out of their bullpen. In 74 appearances last season, Neris posted a 3.63 earned run average, 1.17 WHIP and 98 strikeouts for the Phillies last season.

Adam Frazier dealt to Mariners for two prospects by Padres

Sat, Nov 27th 2:09pm EST
By Chris Schommer

Adam Frazier was acquired by the Seattle Mariners from the San Diego Padres for two prospects. (Source: Ken Rosenthal on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Frazier is known for his defensive versatility and ability to play multiple infield and outfield positions. On top of that the 2021 All-Star is coming off of a season that he finished with a .301 batting average, .767 OPS, 36 doubles, 83 runs scored, and 43 runs batted in with the Pirates and Padres. His ability to find the gaps could translate well to T-Mobile Park and also gives the Mariners another impact bat as they look to finally make the playoffs in 2022.

By Mike Maher

Free agent outfielder Mark Canha agreed to a two-year deal with the New York Mets on Friday, according to multiple reports. (Source: Joel Sherman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Canha batted just .231 in 2021 but boasted a .358 on-base percentage thanks to a 12.3% walk rate. He hit 17 home runs and stole a career-best 12 bases, but he only managed to slug just .387. He’ll be 33 years old at the start of the 2022 season.

By Mike Maher

Outfielder Starling Marte has agreed to a deal with the New York Mets that is pending a physical, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman. (Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: After missing out on free-agent pitcher Steven Matz earlier in the week, the Mets went on a bit of a spending spree heading into the weekend. On Friday, they reportedly agreed to terms with Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha, and now Starling Marte. In 2021, the 33-year-old Marte batted .310 with 12 home runs and 47 stolen bases.

Cedric Mullins II: Orioles willing to entertain offers on star outfielder

Fri, Nov 26th 5:33pm EST
By Andersen Pickard

The Orioles are open to trade offers involving up-and-coming outfielder star Cedric Mullins, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. Any deal would, of course, require a large prospect haul in return. (Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Heyman notes that the Phillies, Rangers, Astros, Giants, Mets, and Yankees all need outfield help, though it’s unclear if any of these teams have engaged in trade talks. The Orioles’ asking price is high and they would presumably want to trade him outside of the AL East (or potentially outside of the entire AL altogether).

Fri, Nov 26th 5:29pm EST
By Andersen Pickard

The Red Sox and starting pitcher Michael Wacha are in agreement on a one-year deal for the 2022 season. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Wacha, 30, went 3-5 with a 5.05 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and .270 OBA through 29 games (23 starts) with the Rays last season. He’ll remain in the AL East and look to bounce back after a suboptimal 2021 campaign.

Eduardo Escobar signs two-year deal with Mets

Fri, Nov 26th 5:27pm EST
By Andersen Pickard

The Mets have reportedly signed infielder Eduardo Escobar to a two-year contract worth roughly $25 million. (Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Escobar, who turns 32 in January, slashed .253/.314/.472 with 28 homers, 90 RBI, 48 walks, and 124 strikeouts through 146 games with the Diamondbacks and Brewers last season. The addition presumably rules out any chance of a Baez/Lindor union in the middle infield.
